East Wind Nut Butters

East Wind Nut Butters was started in 1981 and became the dominant business of East Wind in the late 1990s. Today, Nut Butters is the main source of income for East Wind Community. We have invested heavily in infrastructure for this business. On our land we have a factory with two production lines, cold storage, and dry storage facilities to support this business. Just about every member of East Wind participates in the functioning of this multi-million dollar business.

We are a small manufacturer in a very large market. East Wind produces peanut, almond, and cashew butter as well as tahini. Our products are distributed primarily throughout the Midwest. We source high quality nuts to produce healthy and nutritious foods for our customers and ourselves.

East Wind Nut Butters are made in small batches in single day production runs. Unlike many other nut butter manufacturers, we do not run machines for days on end in an attempt to maximize profit. We take an extra careful approach to ensure quality and this also allows us to customize batches for our many customers who produce health bars, beverages, and other food items that are created using our products.

Utopian Rope Sandals

Utopian Rope Sandals is a small business run by East Wind Community. Originally created to make use of waste from the hammocks business Utopian Rope Sandals has taken on a life of its own. The sandals are lightweight (about 8oz. per pair), and will not rot or mildew. Because they float and get excellent traction on wet surfaces, the sandals have long been popular with boaters and canoers.

Sandals are made by a small number of skilled East Winders who are willing to teach those who are interested in the craft.
