There are good markets for all of our products, and we are proud of the success of our industries. We invented and marketed the Utopian Rope Sandal, which continues to generate a high demand.
We are particularly proud of our successful Nut Butter business. We currently produce organic and 100% natural peanut butter, cashew butter, almond butter, and tahini.
Every member receives a small amount of spending money to be used at that member's discretion -- currently $115.00 per month. While a member is vacationing and not in residence at East Wind, it is possible to take an outside job, wages from which do not have to be donated but are reserved for use on future vacations.
Our efforts have resulted in a standard of living that meets our basic needs and provides a measure of amenities we enjoy. Each member has a private room in one of our residence halls or personal shelters. The kitchen, dining hall, laundry, library and other service facilities are communal -- accessible to all members for their benefit. Community clothes are available to wear. Cooking meals, cleaning of public spaces, laundering, making repairs and other services are the responsibility of work groups interested in performing them for the entire community.
Some of our buildings and interior spaces are not finished or in need of repairs and finishing touches are in short supply. We live lightly, not lavishly. Personal wealth acquired previous to joining the community must be loaned to the community after one year of membership. Personal money acquired while one is a member, such as earnings or investments, are turned over to the community. Private vehicles do not have to be loaned, but they cannot be driven while one is a member. Members share use of the community's fleet of vehicles.
